Professor Paolo Pelosi
Paolo Pelosi is currently the Full Professor in Anaesthesiology and Head of the Speciality School in Anaesthesiology at the University of Genoa in Italy. He is also the head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the IRCCS AOU San Martino IST in Genoa. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan in 1987 and then as a Specialist in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University of Milan in 1991.
He was President of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) from 2010-2011 having previous held several positions in the ESA including Chairman of Guidelines Committee, the Research Committee and the Nomination Committee. He has also been awarded of the Fellowship of the European Respiratory Society (FERS)
Paolo Pelosi has been an invited speaker at more than 1200 national and international meetings between 1990 and 2015; the author or co-author of 275 peer review articles, 118 invited papers (Total 393) and 85 book chapters and more than 100 other publications (H-index 52). His main research interests are: 1) Respiratory mechanics in acute respiratory failure and general anaesthesia; 2) Morphological analysis of the lung by CT scan during general anaesthesia and respiratory failure; 3) Ventilation management of patients with acute respiratory failure; 4) Airway conditioning during mechanical ventilation; 5) Non-invasive ventilation. He is also one of the founder and member of Provenet which is a leading international group aimed to organize large multicentre trials, observational studies and meta-analysis in the field of anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
Professor Pelosi was appointed to Council in July 2015 following nomination by the Società Italiana di Anestesia Analgesia Rianimazione e Terapia Intensiva (SIAARTI).
